The Hartford has named A. Morris “Mo” Tooker as executive vice president
and chief underwriting officer for the company’s property and casualty
businesses, effective July 21, 2015. Tooker will report to Doug Elliot,
president of The Hartford.
“Mo is a recognized and admired leader in the global insurance
industry,” said Elliot. “His deep knowledge of the international,
property and specialty insurance markets will be instrumental in driving
our expanded risk appetite as we pursue growth opportunities in new and
evolving markets.”
Tooker will oversee underwriting across The Hartford’s Small Commercial,
Middle Market, Large Commercial and Personal Lines segments. He will
lead development of the company’s underwriting approach for new markets
and growth areas.
Tooker brings more than 23 years of global insurance and reinsurance
experience with General Reinsurance Corporation, a global property and
casualty and life and health reinsurance company and subsidiary of
Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. In his most recent role as president of Gen Re,
Tooker was responsible for the company’s global property and casualty
reinsurance business. During his tenure with Gen Re, he also oversaw the
company’s global treaty reinsurance and property, engineering and marine
facultative businesses.
“I am excited to join The Hartford and be a part of this iconic industry
brand,” said Tooker. “In my prior roles, I have had the opportunity to
see firsthand the strength of The Hartford’s underwriting capabilities
and its dynamic, highly-engaged leadership team, committed to profitable
growth. I look forward to working closely with this team to build upon
those strengths as we expand our product capabilities and deepen our
distribution partnerships.”
Tooker holds a bachelor's degree in economics and environmental studies
from Middlebury College.
