The
Hartford has appointed Gretchen Thompson head of The Hartford’s
Western Division. In this role, Thompson will lead The Hartford’s Middle
Market sales and underwriting operations for the company’s independent
agents, brokers and their customers in the western part of the United
States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver and
Seattle. Thompson will report to Tracey Ant, head of Middle Market field
sales and execution.
“Strong, mutually beneficial relationships with our distribution
partners are vital to helping us execute our strategy to profitably grow
our business and provide tailored insurance solutions for midsize
business clients,” said Ant. “Gretchen’s demonstrated ability to deepen
distribution relationships and achieve results with agent and broker
partners will enhance our position in an evolving and competitive
marketplace.”
Thompson, who was named to the Business Insurance Women to Watch
list in 2016, has been with The Hartford since 2005 in roles of
increasing responsibility, most recently as regional vice president
based in California. Prior to joining The Hartford, Thompson held
various finance positions at General Electric. Thompson will be based in
Southern California. She earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College.

commercial insurance coverage for midsize and larger businesses,
